Holidaymakers have been coming to see the Blackpool Lights or "illuminations" since 1879, when only electric arc lamps lit up the Promenade in what was described as "artificial sunshine".

Blackpool was the first town in the country to "go electric" in Victorian times. Over a century later, the resort’s love affair with light still endures. Every autumn, when many other seaside resorts empty, Blackpool becomes a glow of lights with "the greatest free show on earth" - Blackpool Illuminations.

The display stretches for approximately five miles along Blackpool’s famous seafront, transforming the Promenade into a blaze of light and colour.

Each year new sections are added to the display, and modern fibre optics and computer control now influence one of Britain’s biggest tourist attractions.

It is Britain’s favourite autumn break, so why not reserve your place for this year’s Blackpool Illuminations now ?
